New South Wales

New South Wales has much more to offer than just great city of Sydney.

New South WalesAbout two hours drive west lies the beautiful, forested mountains Blue Mountains and further westward large sheep and grain farms. To the south lies the New South Wales outback with mining and artist town of Broken Hill. To the north lies the highlands of New England. Most popular is probably still the state’s long coastline, with a series of small resorts with miles of sandy beaches and lovely surfing waves.

Sydney

Sydney is Australia’s largest city with over 5 million inhabitants. Few cities have such a desirable location, such a pleasant climate and so many beaches like Sydney. The initial impression is spectacular, either from airplane window you see the city spread out around Port Jackson with the Blue Mountains in the distance, or if you come by sea into the harbor, where the opera’s white roof goes into a leisure boats sail. Although the city is great so is the center relatively compact and easy to navigate. Sydney is a typical international city – there are almost all the world’s nationalities represented.

A visit to the opera house is mandatory, even a walk in the Rocks – the area where the first settlers settled down. One should also see Darling Harbour and a boat tour of the harbor, either with one of the many ferries sailing harbor or a water taxi. Sydney has a 9 mil long coastline and along that is inviting beaches on line. Take a bus to the famous Bondi Beach, or take the ferry to Manly, if you want a little more space around the bath towel.

Blue Mountains

Aside from a few bare rocks are the Blue Mountains covered with forest. That they are not called “the Green Mountains” because the oil in eucalyptus trees give the hillsides a bluish sheen, while the sun get the oil to evaporate in a bluish haze. On our guided tours to the area you are almost guaranteed to get a feel for some wildlife here, including wild kangaroos.

A bit north of Sydney is the Hunter Valley. The valley is the oldest wine region in Australia and some of the best wines in the world are produced here. There are about twenty wineries in the area and in the vast majority of you are welcome to a sample or three. Some also has a restaurant and offers accommodation.
